This page contains list of changes, fixes and new features in FEM-Design 21 service versions.

Version 21.00.006

Released January 23th, 2023
 

Added:

  • A tooltip picture was added to the Shear wall loads macro dialog to clarify the sign and direction of the loads.
  • Copy bitmap function was deleted from documentation mode menu.
  • Explanation tooltip figure added to shear wall force.
  • Storeys and Axes can be now exported to IFC format.

Modified:

  • Automatic wind load generation for flat roofs was updated for Danish NA - "The pressure coefficient  for zone I of -0,2 is  changed to -0,5".
  • By default the "Find identical copies before calculation for loads" option is switched on from this version.
  • The default cement type is Class N for shrinkage calculation.
  • Loads generated by Shear wall macro are automatically assigned to the walls.
  • On the Analysis tab, multiple Result point property editing is allowed.

Fixed:

  • After structural modifications imperfection, required shape no was reset
  • Bar manual design crashed in some special cases if previously section library was modified in the Section Editor.
  • Bar stress detailed result: fix for curved bars
  • Calculation of Class 3 cross-sections were inconsistent is some cases.
  • Changed time format in fdscript log file to military form and reflect local time.
  • Composite column check / I cross-section solutions sometimes chose the wrong buckling curve.
  • Composite column section utilization: use the buckling length instead of the actual length of the column in the imperfection calculation.
  • Conversion of a steel bar to bar-shell model caused crash if the bar was member of a design group.
  • Corrupted moving load objects that had no positions are deleted at loading.
  • Digital signature was not valid of the "FEM-Design Core Installer (MSI)".
  • Dividing an Edge object of a climate panel caused crash.
  • Documentation module's Text box title was not saved in documentation templates.
  • F and G zones were swapped at wind load generation
  • Fictitious shell properties could not be applied with OK
  • Foundation design results were listed in the dialog even if load combinations were not calculated.
  • If  timber panel result was displayed for selected objects only, recalculation  might have caused crash.
  • In case of fictitious shell conversion local system was modified unnecessarily.
  • In Setup by load combination dialog requested calculations were not displayed correctly when activating an earlier deactivated load combination.
  • In some special cases if on trusses with limit force (uplift calculation) there were also kinematic (e.g. temperature) loads, the program couldn't find the equilibrium state and hit the maximum iteration number and shown warning message due to convergence issues. The convergence issues fixed.
  • In some special cases wrong internal forces were considered in the geometric stiffness matrix in case of construction stage tracking method stability calculation.
  • In steel design calculation shear area was not calculated correctly if the section's y axis was the 2nd principal axis.
  • In steel joint weld utilization calculation shear stress was unnecessarily considered for compressed welds in some cases.
  • Invalid "Palette was adjusted" message could have come after colour palette was loaded with scale (and caused palette reset too...).
  • Isolation foundation presence could cause crash during construction stage calculation.
  • Layer states were not handled correctly in graphical documentation windows.
  • Load tab / Deviation load sometimes did not consider the load assigned to cover.
  • Masonry design calculation crashed in some cases for load group calculation.
  • Modifying rigidity library item and applying the modification on the model might have caused crash in case of profiled and timber panel edge connections.
  • Moving load dynamic calculation could cause crash using Soil modeled by solid elements.
  • Numeric values displayed on apex bars were could not be deleted.
  • Placing numeric value to a Resultant force of a Coloured surface connection  result caused crash.
  • Plastic calculation ran for a load combination even if it was not requested in some special cases.
  • Program crashed at save to docX format, when DirectX mode was not supported by the graphic card.
  • Program crashed when, position slider has been changed by the user at Max of velocity steps, dynamic moving load displayed results.
  • Property change did not work well for RC bars that were member of a design group.
  • Property change of multiple selection of masonry wall stripes caused crash in some cases.
  • RC bar check: section utilization in case of pure tension might change due to stronger convergence criteria.
  • RC bar detailing rules: instead of the actual dimensions of the section, the value of b.w and b.z were used in the determination of the minimum spacing
  • RC bar design: stirrup failure was not considered in the selection of the proper concrete section.
  • RC bar torsional design: at the determination of t.ef the following minimum criteria was not considered: t.ef  should not be taken as less than twice the distance between edge and the center of the longitudinal reinforcement
  • RC design / Shell and Punching utilization dialog could be slow to open if many rail-based punching reinforcement was used
  • Regression in Load settings for bar design parameters.
  • SAF import was corrected for handling of bar eccentricity.
  • Some display option did not work in Plate module for the graphical windows of the documentation.
  • The results of stability analysis were wrong if there was fully rigid diaphragm in the model.
  • Time history combination could not deleted in a convenient way.
  • Weld calculation of column base steel joints was no correct.
  • When defining different intensities for the surface motion load, it did not work if e1 was equal to e2 but e1 was not equal to e3.

Version 21.00.005

Fixed:

  • Drawing climate load panels did not work in some cases.
  • In steel bar detailed results displaying of web buckling resistance was not correct in case of sections with two webs.
  • In steel bar detailed result the location of the maximum shear stress result was not displayed correctly.
  • RC Shell detailed result tables were not coloured when exported to docx format.

Version 21.00.003

Added:

  • Construction stages of structural objects are now saved to and read from StruXML.
  • Finnish language version of the output (Documentation).
  • Polish language version.
  • From now on the Reference planes can be selected as master objects in the Adjust analytical model tool.
  • "Both" option for bar plane (that considers both planes) is added to Adjust analytical model tool.
  • Material and section mapping can be applied for multi-selection at IFC import settings.
  • The summary of IFC import issues lists the IFC GUID of the affected elements in addition to their FD GUID

Modified:

  • Deflection calculation of shells could crash in a special case when the node of the shell did not belong to any of the deflection regions due to tolerance issue. From now on, a warning message is notifying the user about the problem, with the correspondent shell ID.
  • Improved and more accurate cracked section calculation, especially around the load level of the cracking moment.
  • In CLT fire design, from now on the value of d0 can be set (overwritten the standard value) in the calculation parameter.
  • In composite column fire design, the l0/b condition (for figure H.2 in EN 1994-1-2) was checked before the calculation of combinations. However, in case of no bending moment, this check is irrelevant, as the value of fi.delta is not needed for the calculation of resistance, thus, this check is performed during the calculation of the individual combinations.
  • RC bar crack width utilization is now directly calculated as the ratio of the crack width value and its allowed limit value.
  • RC design / Punching / Punching force perimeter sign is displayed by the effective depth inherited from the Calculation parameter of Punching and Shell reinforcement, instead of the applied shell reinforcement. The force calculation can still consider the applied reinforcement.
  • RC design / Punching design / Punching shell internal force calculation / "Integration, smoothed" option is replaced with "Max, smoothed". The smoothing window is 35cm.
  • The "default selection" button of the StruXML update dialog was replaced by three new ones: "Last action", "FD's state" and "External state".
  • The limit values of the stiffness modifiers have been increased.

Fixed:

  • Adjust analytical model/ Align command did not work in some cases.
  • Apex tension check for timber bar design calculation was not correct in some special cases.
  • Apex volume calculation for timber bar design calculation was not correct in some special cases.
  • At IFC import finding equivalent FEM-Design sections gave wrong results in some cases.
  • Automatic section and material mapping has become more intelligent in IFC import.
  • Automatically generated wind loads were not precise in some cases for  Regular buildings.
  • Axis label colour and pen width settings were not taken into account.
  • Beams were not aligned to Axis by Adjust analytical model tool.
  • Composite column auto design of concrete-filled circular section with inner core sometimes generated reinforcement into the inner steel core.
  • Composite column fire design could crash if the section was changed during auto design, and the new section did not satisfy the detailed applicability conditions of the standard.
  • Cross-section data of composite sections were not displayed correctly in some cases.
  • Cube strength of a few non-standard concrete classes (C28, C32 and C54) were incorrect.
  • Default material for shells was modified in IFC import mapping dialog.
  • Default section group was not set as expected in Section macro dialog.
  • Defining Ridge roof climate panel caused crash in some cases.
  • Diaphragms are not considered as support for cover anymore.
  • fdcsript/apply design changes did not work correctly.
  • For at least double- symmetric cross sections the "z omega Wagner's parameter" section property is zero from now.
  • Gap size was not considered correctly In the visualization of some steel joints.
  • IFC export sent too detailed cross-section names (extended with irrelevant section group name)
  • IFC import dialog crashed if copying some text was atte.mpted in the mapping dialog.
  • Size limit filtering for IFC import has been improved.
  • In case of bar-shell model calculation alpha_ult value was not calculated precisely.
  • In case of loading an IFC model incorrect Surface foundation objects might have been created.
  • In case of steel joint detailed results Properties commend caused crash.
  • In foundation design calculation for Swedish NA d_q value was not calculated correctly in case of drained conditions.
  • In some case of Ghost case of construction stage calculation the internal forces were wrongly calculated.
  • In some special cases running punching calculation after diaphragm calculation could have caused error in analysis.
  • In some special cases, RC design / Punching / Wall-end punching cannot be created.
  • In special case of diaphragm using in nonlinear calculation caused computational error or un-converged solution.
  • In standalone Steel joint module default U-shape cross-sections were not correct.
  • In Steel joint manual design pushing Next/Previous button caused crash in some cases.
  • In the detailed result of fully encased composite column fire design (Annex G), in some cases the interaction curve was not displayed properly.
  • In the settings of Adjust analytical model tool "Move physical model" option was enabled for "Fit objects to - Storeys".
  • kmod factor for timber bar design calculation was not correct, if the load combination contained a load case with negative factor.
  • Load combinations dialog's Insert command may have caused crash if Type was overwritten with an invalid text.
  • Modification of RC bar design parameters did not work correctly if more bars with different cross-sections were selected.
  • No shear region bitmap was not accurate.
  • Order of seismic factors of Norwegian Annex was wrong
  • Pile support parameters were not refreshed if the soil was moved.
  • RC bar calculation was extremely slow in case of Dutch annex.
  • RC bar manual design did not work correctly if it was launched from detailed result for Maximum of load groups.
  • RC design / Punching check may have causes crash if there were no suitable design load combinations.
  • RC design / Punching design / Shell internal force-based method could have failed if the shell physical element was extended, and the calculation line reached the extended part.
  • RC design / Punching design perimeter calculation did not find the shortest path in some special cases .
  • Renaming of Layer filters did not work correctly.
  • Resultant arrows were pale, at reaction  / connection forces results, if the result was displayed in shade mode at the first time.
  • Results of the end displacements of bars in case of Storey fundamental frequency calculation were corrected.
  • Roofs with inclination less than 5 degrees, but not horizontal, were not considered as Flat roof.
  • Saving IFC import template did not work correctly on IFC types.
  • Splitting shell regions deleted edge connections.
  • Steel bar detailed result contained some mistyped string in the interaction factor calculation.
  • Steel bar fire design calculation check crashed in some special cases.
  • Steel bar fire detailed result caused crash for tapered bars, if maximum temperature was set manually.
  • Story definition by selecting only beams caused crash in some cases.
  • Story definition by selecting structural objects did not work in some cases after importing an IFC model.
  • StruXML can now read all stiffness modifier factors.
  • StruXML could not create circular supports.
  • Table of Concrete materials did not contain the same yield strain as the one displayed in the dialog.
  • There was some delay problem with highlighting
  • Timber bar detailed result crashed in some special cases for design groups that contained bars with different lengths.
  • Using undo might have corrupted moving load object if it was used after modifying the vehicle type.
  • Warning is sent if struxml model contains controversial information about bar physical eccentricity.

Version 21.00.002

Released March 24th, 2022

Added:

  • Dutch language version is updated with FD21 features.
  • French language version is updated with FD21 features.
  • Hungarian language version is updated with FD21 features.
  • Polish language version (for documentation module's output only) is updated with FD21 features.
  • Option to consider reopening of cracks (and ignore EN 1992-1-1 7.1 (2)) is added to RC design configuration settings.
  • It is now possible to select installer's language, and the selected language will be the default language of the FEM-Design. The starting National Annex will be chosen according to the selected language by default for the first time.
  • New UPE section series (DIN 1026-2) is added to the Section library.
  • Option to ignore stiffness reduction factors in CLT fire design calculations is added.
  • Surface load tooltip shows the exact load value at the current cursor point.
  • The INSUNITS variable contains the user-specified unit conversion value in the DWG file. This is used automatically by the appropriate program - AutoCAD, FEM-Design, etc. - when the file is opened. Works with AutoCAD 2021 or later DWG files.
  • The points of solids used as reference after IFC import can be now snapped to.

Modified:

  • Automatically generated snow loads can now be edited by the User.
  • In case of results where "Constant view" option can be set (Line reactions, line connections, etc.) numeric values generated by maximum/minimum option are  placed to the middle instead of the end of the line for better visualization.
  • In Norwegian National Annex seismic response spectra values were updated according to the latest version of the Norwegian NA.
  • In Swedish national annex snow load macro uses special rules of EKS 11 for generating loads on pitched roofs.

Fixed:

  • "Fill all cells" option did not work for RC shell result tables.
  • Bar stress combination detailed result could crash if model contained only trusses as elements with plastic behaviour.
  • Building cover definition could cause a crash if the Construction stage was used.
  • CLT fire design could crash if the charred section was larger than the thickness of the panel.
  • Conversion from bar to profiled panel failed in some cases.
  • Copying/picking of 'Consider steel bar plasticity' property of bars did not work.
  • Creating Bracing Joint 6 caused crash in some special cases.
  • Creating Result points by selecting numeric values of surface crack results did not work correctly.
  • Ctrl+A can be used for selecting end points of edge connections.
  • Displaying edge connection results took long time.
  • For some type of RC cross-sections the auto design didn't work.
  • From now on, the Installer will send a notification, when SYSTEM REBOOTING is needed, even, if it was launched from SSInstaller.(Launched in reduced UI mode (passive).)
  • In Finnish National Annex snow load macro did not generated correctly the drifted snow load at tall buildings.
  • In Norwegian National Annex k2 factor used for shear capacity calculation was not displayed correctly in the detailed result of RC shells.
  • Line and point connections are assigned correctly to construction stages during automatic assignment by Storeys,
  • Line loads acting parallel with their action line were not visible in some cases.
  • Manually created punching regions at the corner and the edge of the plates were deleted when reentering RC Design mode.
  • Modification of edge connection type and applying the modification on the model at the same time might have caused crash.
  • Modification of fire protecting material properties in the library caused crash if the modifications were applied on the used materials, too.
  • Modification of soil material properties and applying the modification on the soil used in the current model caused crash.
  • Moment resistance of RHS column base steel joint was not calculated correctly in some special cases.
  • Navigation in Documentation was slow in some special cases.
  • Paste file including composite sections could cause crash.
  • Point and line loads acting on shells sometimes were not visible in documentation graphical windows generated by Documentation wizard.
  • Quantity estimation for tapered steel and timber bar did not work correctly.
  • RC bar design parameter dialog did not display a red line for the current edge for cover modification.
  • RC design / Punching / Check: Load combination selection could cause wrong results during Punching check.
  • RC design / Punching / Wall-corner punching could cause a crash if the angle of the walls is too small.
  • Structural objects without material caused crash at Filter.
  • There was some memory leaks in display settings dialog.
  • Wind load generation directly on shear walls did not work correctly for X- and Y- directions.
  • Vibration space definition did not work in RC bar design parameters dialog.

Version 21.00.001

Released January 26th, 2022

 
Modified:

  • Calculation type selection is added to orthotropic and CLT timber panels manual design.
  • The color of assigned loads is changed from green to brown.
  • Fire design of non-uniform steel bars is enabled.

Fixed:

  • StruXML had a problem with non-zero level soil definition.
  • "Fictitious bars" table did not contain their IDs.
  • For color palette results, if the color of the palette position matched the background color, that color changed to inverse (such as white to black) when the result was displayed.
  • Equation 6.28 was not displayed correctly in detailed result of steel bars with hollow section.
  • Am/V factor for circular bars was not calculated precisely in steel bar fire design.
  • In case of invalid steel joint calculations, earlier manually set joint stiffness data may have got lost.
  • Reinforcement was shown out of the section when physical view was turned on.
