Masonry Design
Available in: 3D Structure
With FEM-Design Masonry design module, masonry walls (made of newly developed brick materials) can be modeled and checked according to EN1996-1-1.

Modeling requirements
A masonry wall should be defined with the Plane wall command and should have brick-type material.
Configuration and calculation parameter
Masonry design calculation is carried by vertical Wall stripes. The stripes help to accurately account for the openings, the load / support / slab-connection conditions of a wall, which may vary along the length. The stripe-division is performed automatically based on the Default (maximum) stripe width parameter that we specify at Configure masonry design.
Stripes can be modified one-by-one manually with the tools of Calculation parameter: Split stripe, Move border and Merge stripes (to one). The behavior and the properties of a stripe can be set with the Properties function:
- By Not relevant it can be set whether or not ("Not relevant") a particular stripe is taken into account in design
- Slab-wall connection (hinged or rigid) influences moment distribution by eccentricity between a slab and the wall part.
- Layout defines how a slab is positioned above/below the wall part.
- d1, d2 are needed to calculate the free height of the wall part.
- s1, s2 are needed to calculate the moment due to slab eccentricity.
- Modified stripes can be restored to the state and size recommended by FEM-Design (from the automatic generation and the Default (maximum) stripe width parameter) with the Reset wall stripes command at any time.
Results
Masonry design provides the following results for Load combinations or Load groups:
- Internal forces by stripe
- Normal force
- Moment from analysis
- Moment due to eccentricity derived from slab-wall connection
- Total moment
- Utilization
Detailed result is available by walls
The content of a detailed result can be managed by Display options.
We can create tables (in our FEM-Design documentations) or export lists of brick materials and Masonry design results.
