Wall Edge Connections tool applies edge connections to walls.

With this tool, it is possible to apply edge connections to wall elements in Revit, and export walls along with their edge parameters to struxml.

Upon clicking on Wall Edge Connections (StruSoft tab | Tools panel), an Apply edge connections to walls dialog appears. Here, you can:

  • select one of the four predefined releases to be applied to wall edges,
  • add user defined edge connection identifier, or keep the default one (EC),
  • import a line connection library from struxml.

The four predefined releases correspond exactly to the four predefined edge connections in FEM-Design that one can find in the Edge connection dialog. Upon importing a custom line connection library, all imported types will be listed in drop down lists. Read more here.

Edge connections orientation

The Right and Left releases are solely dependent on the wall’s coordinate system. The Right release is applied to that edge of the wall that is in the positive directions of the y (green) in-plane axis. The Left release is applied to that edge of the wall that is in the negative directions of the y (green) in-plane axis. So the coordinate system of the wall decides on the Left / Right release position!

Shared parameter

The Top / Bottom / Left / Right releases, as well as their corresponding ID's are applied to walls as Shared parameters and are read-only. By default they are applied to both Wall and Analytical wall and are located under Structural Analysis tab. One can modify those default settings in the Project Parameters.

The shared parameters can be added to the schedules.

Adding the Wall Edge Connections parameters, requires presence of shared parameter file, into which, the new parameter can be added.

Import line connections library

Save a FEM-Design Line connection library to struxml.

In Revit, Wall Edge Connections tool, it is now possible to import such library using the Import Library command. The new types of edge connections will appear in the drop down list of each of four releases. They can be now added to walls in Revit.

If you import another library to a model that already has some edge connections applied from another imported library, you will be asked to decide what to do with the existing edge connections in the model. The options are:

  • reset all edge connections to rigid value, so you can start from scratch,
  • keep all existing edge connections, but only if they also exist in the newly imported library; otherwise reset to rigid,
  • cancel the import of the new library and return to previous settings.

  3. Decide upon the edge connection ID's.
  4. Apply edge connections to selected wall(s) or to all walls in the model.
  5. Once applied, edge connections will be exported automatically with the walls to struxml.
  6. In order to modify/edit the release conditions, one has to reapply the edge connections on selected walls.

  • Select the wall(s) you want to modify and start the Wall Edge Connections tool.
