Apply same surface reinforcement on both sides

It is not possible to manually and automatically apply the same surface reinforcement on both sides of the shell.

  • In Manual design one can chose to apply a reinforcement region to both sides of the shell. Once reinforcement region is drawn in one side (e.g. bottom), it will automatically be applied to the other one (top).

  • In Auto design, it is the design calculation parameters that can be set for both sides, but this doesn’t mean the reinforcement region will be the same!

RC bar manual design improvements

Check command and Result window tools are added to Manual design window of RC bars.

Check

Now one can easily follow how the newly defined or modified reinforcements influence the results.

Result window tools

In Result window tools one can chose the result type to display (interaction surface of the designed bar, or a summary of utilizations for different design checks) and customize displayed results.

When Result window is activated, Result window tools pops up. It contains options to control the content of Result window.

Interaction surface view

The picture below shows how to display Horizontal section of interaction surface. Displaying vertical section of interaction surface works in a similar way, but the angle of the plane should be defined.

Load combination type: Ultimate or Accidental/Seismic has to be selected when displaying interaction surface (different safety factors of material properties have influence of the interaction surface).

When results are calculated, internal forces of each load combination are displayed by dots in different colors:

green dotCheck is OK - point is inside the interaction surface.
red dotCheck fails - point is outside the interaction surface.
orange dot

Check fails - point is inside the interaction surface.

This case may happen if torsion is acting on the bar: in this case capacity of longitudinal reinforcement can not be fully considered in resistance against normal force and bending. To avoid displaying different interaction surface for each load combination, this effect is NOT considered when displaying interaction surface.

Tooltip for each dot shows the internal forces and the name of the combination.

If user modifies reinforcement, the interaction surface is automatically updated, but load combination results become invalid and consequently, no internal forces are displayed anymore. Press Check button to get the updated results.

If more calculated sections are in one cross-section of the bar (for example at concentrated load), internal force dots of both sections are displayed.

Internal force dots are visible only in Wireframe and Hidden line display modes, but Shading and Shading with edges mode gives a clearer view of the surface.

Part of some longitudinal reinforcement bars is green because of the “shear lengthening”. EC 9.2.1.3 (4) is implemented in FEM-Design by adding an extra length to the reinforcement bars. The green parts of the bars are not considered in the capacity calculation of the section.

SLS Stress limits listed for shells

According to Eurocode 2 7.2 (2) concrete stresses can be restricted in order to increase the durability of the structure. 7.2 (3) describes also when non-linear creep should be considered in analysis. These stresses are calculated from the internal forces without considering the reinforcement.

Results can be listed under RC design/Max. of combinations or Max of load groups.
