Improvements in peak smoothing regions

Two major improvements are implemented for peak smoothing region.

Firstly, finite element mesh is not adjusted to peak smoothing region, so the FE mesh will be more efficient. From now on, only the nodes within the peak smoothing region will be considered into the internal force modifications.

Secondly, one can decide upon the peak smoothing method (how to smooth the shells internal forces in peak smoothing region) in Settings/Calculation/Peak smoothing/Method.

Example

The following example shows the different options and their effects on the shell’s Mx’ result.

Don’t smooth

No smoothing is done.

Use constant shape functions

Nodal results within the peak smoothing region are constant.

This is exactly the same as in previous versions.

Use higher order shape functions

Nodal results within the peak smoothing region are not constant,
but distribution of internal force is a higher order function.
