Climate load panel
Contents
Concept
The climate load panel (introduced in FEM-Design 21) acts as a reference region for the climate loads generated via Snow and Wind/Generic building load macro, and is located in the Load tab > Macro panel.
Define climate load panel
Definition of a climate panel is a required first step before automatic generation of wind load for Generic building and Snow load. There are four types of climate panels to chose from, and two ways of defining them.
To start the climate load panel definition, select one of the four predefined types:
- External wall
- Flat roof
- Lean-to (roof)
- Ridge roof
Next, select one of the two definition methods:
Associate to structural elements
Select the Associate to structural element(s) command and select the plate, wall or cover to associate it with. FEM-Design will automatically create climate wall panel(s) based on the associated element(s) geometry. The climate load panel’s geometry changes automatically with the geometry of the host element and it cannot be edited separately.
Draw panel
Select the Draw panel command and draw the climate wall panel with the help of the predefined contour definition methods. The geometry of a panel drawn with this method can be modified, using the region editing tools (if the Climate load generation data layer is active).
Note: For Building covers, climate load panels are automatically created when Climate load panel, Wind/Generic building or Snow function is launched.
Hints:
- In case of External wall type of climate load panel, the location of the outer wall surface must be specified.
- In case of Flat roof type of climate load panel, the direction of “0°" must be specified for correct interpretation of wind directions.
- Climate load panels belong to the Climate load generation data object layer and can be deleted with the Erase command (Modify > Erase).
- Wind load and snow load properties of the climate load panels can be set at the (Generic building) Wind load dialogs or the Snow load dialog.
